Eighth Day Love

Last light, love.
Our virgin breath
Must soon fade away, die
In the growing dusk.
When we wake tomorrow
We will be newly old.

Tomorrow morning, love,
The sun will be high-
Already zenith.
Oh my Venus!
         “Were there world enough
          And time, dear lady…”
But we have not enough time,
For soon our souls past apex –
And then the youth of
Twilight approaches.

Last light, love.
Last waltz before tomorrow,
When we shall wake,
And dance again.
And I, love, I –
Virgin youth no more –
I will love you
Until the stars pierce me
And draw me back to them.

And the morning after,
On the day of eternal light,
Forever and forever
I will love you.
